The Capital of Thailand
Like many capital cities around the world, Bangkok was very likely chosen because of its proximity to the Gulf of Thailand. The choice of a "port" city makes good sense because being near the ocean, it enables international trade and commerce to be much more efficient and cost effective.
However, it also means that most of the PLASTIC POLLUTION entering the Gulf of Thailand travels through Bangkok. With a current population of more than 11 million people, it means that every week, millions of discarded plastic items find their way into the canals, tributaries and rivers, eventually making their way into the Gulf of Thailand.
This toxic waste problem is a tragedy just waiting to happen and it's an enormous burden on Thai fishing enterprises. It's time for action to stop this growing pollution. The time for talk is over! Let's clean up!
