Scale Model

Building a functional scale model of the "Surface" OGG Pod is a vitally important aspect of the OGG Project.

The process of designing and constructing a scale model is a tremendously valuable and useful exercise.

Three (3) scale models are planned (30:1, 24:1, 15:1) for scale model diameters of 0.5m, 0.625m and 1.0m.

Key Benefits

1

The scale model DESIGN process provides important confirmation of the key OGG Pod design parameters, modifying and/or updating them if required to improve the overall design.

2

Similarly, the scale model BUILDING process identifies, modifies and updates any unexpected design issues of the OGG Pod that were not apparent in the initial design stage.

3

Seeing the completed scale model in action creates enormous excitement for the design and building team members, providing them with great satisfaction from their "job well done" as well as contagious on-going enthusiasm for the project.

4

Observing the detailed structure of the scale model and then watching the scale model in action enables the viewer to  understand exactly how the full scale OGG Pod successfully performs its plastic pollution collection functions.

5

The scale model in action can be displayed and demonstrated in public areas to inform the general Thai population of the project progress. This will create interest, understanding, enthusiasm and support in the community for the project.

6

The OGG Pod design is MODULAR which is ideal for having most of the sections created quickly and accurately by 3D printing. This allows fast delivery of additional scale model pods as required for public and/or Thai government display requirements.

Key Features

1

The main feature of the scale model is that it demonstrates how the flow of water created by the  propellers, draws plastic pollution inwards and downwards into the collection nets below. This feature represents the main purpose of the OGG Pods... to collect and remove floating plastic pollution at or near the water surface.

2

The most surprising feature of the scale model is that it will demonstrate how the pod can rotate left and right, as well as move forward or reverse in any direction. This feature provides the scale model with surprising mobility.

3

This important feature is achieved by rotating the circular rudders individually and/or as a group, to manipulate the direction of the water flowing from the pod. The circular rudders, all controlled and rotated by individual servo motors, are all angled downwards at a 45 degree angle to make this possible.
